Fuerteventura Beaches

The miles of white sandy beaches that disappear into turquoise waters make the beaches of Fuerteventura by far the best in all of the Canary Islands.

These perfect white sand beaches are not the result of sand being blown across from the Sahara Desert (as some Guidebooks claim) but are in fact composed of broken shells and other remains from marine organisms.

Some of the best beaches are all a short drive away, the furthest local beach is about 20 minutes some are nearer. In El Cortillo on the west coast there are a number of beaches and the most popular for swimming and sunbathing is to the North of the village of El Cortillo or turn right as you enter the town coming from Ljares, this is in fact a series of beaches and is simply wonderful, we have travelled alot and this is hard to beat. To the south of El Cortillo is a wonderful long beach which is great for surfing, kite surfing or a wonderful walk. Watch the waves here they can be high and swimming is very challenging and not for small children or poor swimmers.

The natural park on the east coast just south of Corralejo has a pretty much non-stop beach for 6 kilometers. There are also a number of beaches in Corraljo town which are nice and quite calm but they can get very busy in summer months.

Note the Natural Park and El Cortillo has a reasonable number of nudists on display at any given point in time. Nudism in Fuerteventura is accepted as long as it is not in close proximity of hotels, restaurants, bars etc.

There are so many gorgeous beaches in Fuerteventura that we could not possibly describe them all but if you want a day trip we highly recommend Cofete in the very south of the Island, this place is very remote but very spectacular.
